Clarence Sexton: Leaving Behind a Legacy of Compromise, Pragmatism, Man-Centeredness, Error and Heresy

On Dec 12th, 2023, Pastor Clarence Sexton, the independent fundamental baptist (IFB) pastor of Temple Baptist Church, and president of Crown College, passed away. Sexton had built a major institution and had often expressed concern over leaving a legacy. But did he and what kind of legacy? Some would say a good and godly legacy, but what does scripture say, our ultimate authority? His influence has certainly been significant among the independent baptists, thanks in large part to the marketing and finances invested in him. But only Gods Word can effectually discern and judge whether a man has built a godly legacy or not. Though Sexton carried the title of "Dr.", he was not a real Dr. of anything. His doctorate was an "honorary doctorate" from Tennessee Temple University.

We believe Pastor Clarence Sexton was a nice and likeable man, a friendly man who treated those he met with kindness and tenderness, at least from our vantage point. We have no issues with his personality, or his desire to see the good in everything. Many times however with this type of mindset, compromise becomes more easy and easily justifiable. We believe this was the case with Clarence Sexton. The same typical man-centred, pragmatic direction of ministry, attempting to appease all crowds and have no enemies, nor conflict, a southern hospitality mentality rather than a Biblical stance, while twisting, redefining, misusing, and abusing scripture to justify his agenda and support false doctrine and an anemic, corrupted gospel, to enable compromised relationships and further his own glory and popularity. Thus we believe Sexton to be another honorary member of the Order of Judas. The highly influential pastor of Temple Baptist Church and president of Temple Baptist College was loaded with the typical man-centred IFB errors and fallacies, church growth heresies and philosophies (albeit with a fundamentalist twist), and propagated the same false repentant-less, Lord-less, easy-believism, quick-prayerism gospel of Jack Hyles whom he loved and called "a great man," and for whom he lied, the disgraced and wicked wolf and "pastor" of First Baptist Church of Hammond, a vessel of Satan to bring thousands into the lake of fire (2 Cor 11:12-15).

What was wrong with Clarence Sexton's doctrines and philosophies? Consider the following, which is likely only the tip of the iceberg.

Clarence Sexton Preached and Purveyed an Anemic, Corrupted Gospel.

Sexton embraced and purveyed a false gospel (easy-believism/quick-prayerism 1-2-3 pray after me, no/false repentance, false teaching on evidence of salvation, silly carnival atmosphere, turned evangelism into a type of salesmanship, manipulated alter calls, false worship in tolerating and even embracing CCM music, etc, all of which is a perverted and corrupted gospel and falls under the condemnation of Gal. 1:8-9.

Denying repentance is a false gospel (Lk 13:3), and those who preach a false gospel are accursed (Gal 1:8-9). Many in the Hyles crowd deny the doctrine of repentance, and a much greater number deny it in practice. I guess Paul was too narrow minded when he wrote Gal 1:8-9 under inspiration. In our present age of apostasy a person can deny the gospel but it still be okay to preach with him, as long as he holds to other more fundamental teachings, like being part of the same fellowship or assocation.

Sexton made Temple Baptist into a Sword of the Lord type of church.  Very slick, clever, and deceptive in the way they present the gospel, alter calls, how they typically define repentance in their doctrinal statements (or not at all), as if they actually believe in Biblical repentance, when in reality they don't. The careful student of scripture can normally see right through this deception. These types of churches would say that an issue really not should not be made of this, and that differences of opinion on the matter of repentance and Lordship are not grounds for separation. We would say, wow! How very pragmatic and how very unsurprising.

Sexton was more concerned about the filling of pews than the purity of the true gospel. His philosophy was shaped by results rather than by Scripture, where the ends often justified the means. He was more concerned with the image of his name and church and college and movement than the purity and obedience of Gods Word, than the preaching and standing for the truth of God Word. His focus was more on himself, his vision, his programs, his methods, elevating his platform above the Word of God, and by appearances attempting to build a kingdom instead of seeking the Kingdom as those in Heb 11, who "confessed that they were strangers and pilgrims on the earth." (Heb 11:13). He was a master of pragmatism but not a master of the truth, and so it is amongst practically all Sword of the Lord type of churches, John R Rice leading by example.

What was glaringly absent in Sexton's gospel proclamation, a doctrine that rarely escapes his lips, and when it is mentioned, it's superficial and vague at best, but most often perverted and falsified almost without exception — is the doctrine of repentance and everything that it comes with, which is inseparable from the true gospel/salvation. At times he would give repentance a true but partial description, such as in this article, but only the one sentence on this critical doctrine, the very Foundation of Salvation. In general there was a lack or nonexistent presentation of repentance in his salvation, and a propensity towards easy believism and quick prayerism, all of which equates a false gospel.

In his sermon "How to Lead Someone to Christ,” at about the 39 min mark Sexton leads someone in a prayer for salvation, and that prayer is "to ask for forgiveness of sins, for Jesus to come into his life and be his Savior." This is what salvation is to him but its not in line with Scripture, and this mirrors majority of fundamentalists. No repentance, no surrender, no ploughing of the soul with the Word of God, only easy believisim and quick prayerism, a hideous replacement of the truth.

There are three primary ways today that repentance is abused or corrupted, and essentially denied. One is to reduce it to merely a change of mind. This turns salvation to a mere intellectual exercise, confined solely to head knowledge. The word means a lot more than intellectualism. Two, saying that it is repenting of unbelief, that is turning from unbelief to belief, so someone who was not believing is now believing, and that is repentance apparently. They essentially dumb down repentance to being synonymous with faith, revealing their rejection of the doctrine. Nowhere is repentance portrayed like this in scripture, anywhere, and it’s once again a clever rejection of a critical and foundational doctrine of the gospel. Three, someone says repentance is a work, so it isn't required for salvation, but comes after salvation. Scripture shows clearly that biblical repentance isn't a work (Ac 11:18, 2 Tim 2:25) anymore than faith is (Phil 1:29, Eph 2:8-9), and we’re not saved by works, and we know that repentance is absolutely required for salvation (Mk 1:15; Ac 20:21; Lk 13:1-5; 5:31-32; 2 Pet 3:9; etc). All three of these corruptions of repentance are in fact denials.

Clarence Sexton was guilty of the first two points. He denied the paramount doctrine.

Is intellectual-only faith or repentance a false doctrine? It is. You hear this taught among fundamentalists. You can’t fellowship with those who teach this. We wouldn’t have anything to do with Clarence Sexton and Crown College for this reason alone.

We are basing this on several factors that seem obvious to me, but if you are inside the barrel, you may not see it, because it looks like the rest of the barrel. Clarence Sexton pushes men that take this view and honours them; for instance, the Curtis Hutson Center. If you read Curtis Hutson's book on repentance or understood his spite for it, he's been a sort of father of what we're talking about.

I say intellectual only faith and repentance, because you can't separate repentance from faith in conversion. Repentance is more than just intellectual, the etymological approach, which says repentance is a mere change of mind, and worse a change of mind about unbelief. You weren't believing and now you're believing, so you changed your mind about believing, and that's what repentance is. That is the Curtis Hutson presentation but its heretically and horribly corrupt.

Scripture says that faith and repentance are more than intellectual, but also volitional and emotional. It is a conversion of the soul, which is more than the mind, but also the will and the emotion. The volitional aspect is mainly what's missing, turning from self, from your way to His way (Ac 14:15-16).

Sexton also warmly and lovingly embraced heretics that believed and taught a perverted repentant-less false gospel such as Jack Hyles and Curtis Hutson, thus he was in obvious agreement over a most critical doctrine (Am 3:3). Sexton's Crown College has the Curtis Hutson Center for Local Church Ministries there on campus. Hutson was as responsible as any fundamentalist leader for changing the gospel by changing the definition and description of repentance to an unbiblical one. First in his 1986 booklet, "Repentance: What Does the Bible Teach?", Hutson denied that repentance means to turn from sin (p. 4), rejected that it is sorrow for sin (p. 8), and taught that it means “a change of mind that leads to a change of action” (p. 16), thus he concluded with the false definition that repentance is merely “to change one’s mind.” Sexton's adoration of Curtis Hudson, even naming a building at the Crown College after him, speaks volumes as to the type of gospel he embraces. A “gospel” that is stripped of repentance at the very least. But Hutson didn’t just deny repentance. He hated repentance. Vehemently, even changing gospel hymns while editor at Sword of the Lord that contained the word repent. It comes as no surprise that Hutson was a very close friend of the wolf in sheep’s clothing Jack Hyles.

Hutsons "gospel" was a perverted gospel (Gal 1:6-7) which means he was accursed (Gal 1:8-9). But that didn't matter to Sexton because his gospel was practically the same.

Sexton's relationship with Jack Hyles whom he loved and called "a great man" in this video, where he lies for Jack Hyles, the disgraced and wicked wolf and "pastor" of First Baptist Church of Hammond in the 70's and 80's, speaks volumes to what Sexton really believed about the true gospel, about repentance and Christ's Lordship

Clarence Sexton further rejected the true gospel by rejecting the Lordship of Christ. Men like Sexton accuse those who teach Christ's Lordship of teaching works salvation, and claim that repentance doesn't need to accompany faith to the point that it should practically be avoided, and that people can be Christians without showing true and dramatic change in their lives. This is hitting upon the heart of the problem. Correcting it would knock many of those preachers off of their thrones.

This false gospel has been turned into a game that is played. It has components of the real thing, but on many important, vital, necessary features, it is fiction. People need to know it and call it out.

Sexton’s Man-Centeredness, Lording, Hero-Worship along with Rank, Nauseating Pragmatism of the Highest Order. Sexton Refused to Warn about Certain Error, False Teachers, Corrupt Men, Especially Those Within the IFB and Rather Received Such Men (e.g., Jack Hyles, Curtis Hutson and son Tony, Jack Schaap, David Gibbs, Jack Trieber, Kurt Skelly, CT Townsend, etc). He Refused to Criticize or Accept Criticism.

Typical weekly church services are demonstrations of man-worshipping, numbers-exaltation, story-filled, man-centered preaching. Exegetical preaching is replaced with dispensing of God's Word, opinions, and story-telling, while claiming to be "preaching the Word." The churches and sermons are powerless because of the corruption of Scripture (whence rests the power, the Sword of the Spirit), neglect of God's Word, so they depart from the source of power and have no option but to generate their own "power." Hence why so much manipulation, under-handed dealings, fear-mongering, and threats that occur in these environments.

Man-centredness and hero-worship along with rank pragmatism of the highest order are marks of a false teacher (Rom. 16:17-18, pay attention to v. 18). Sexton calls these wicked men "shepherds" but they are wolves, they are strangers, and since he can't tell the difference, he is one of them. Jesus says that in John 10:1-5.

No, or next to no church discipline in Sextons realm, another evidence of man-centred man-worshipping belly-servers. Obedience to Scripture isn't what drives these men but biggism, empirism, niceness, keeping the "peace." Purity, holiness, godliness for God's glory is not what motivates him but his own belly, his own lusts, his own power-hunger.

Some people claim that pastor Sexton was tyrannical in his pastoring, a spiritual abuser, that he didn't show love, joy, peace, patience, gentleness, goodness, faith, meekness or temperance. If this is true, we would warn with Jer 23:1,

“Woe be unto the shepherds that destroy and scatter the sheep of my pasture! says the LORD.”

Consider one example. Sexton would perform power plays to show his congregation who was boss. Sexton used to have the choir repeat a song immediately if he liked it. There was an 8-minute long rendition of “It Is Well” that must have been tedious to sit through. On some occasions, Sexton would get up and told tell to immediately repeat it. If you liked that arrangement, great. But the whole point was that he was showing the congregation that he could subject them to whatever he wanted. And that he was like a king who could cause a whole choir to perform at command, no matter how tedious and inconsiderate the command. He did this kind of thing all the time. Either you were impressed by it, and fell under his domineering control, or you eventually got out, perhaps for additional reasons.

Sexton’s false separation and affiliation with heretics and wolves in sheep’s clothing (e.g. Jack Schaap, Jack Trieber, Tony Hudson, First Baptist Church of Hammond, and all the rest of the fragmented and unrepentant remains of the Hyles coalition)

Sexton was a long-time affiliate of Jack Schaap, Jack Hyles, David Hyles, First Baptist Hammond, Pastors' School (Hyles), Hyles-Anderson, John Wilkerson, Scott Pauley, Sword of the Lord, Shelton Smith, Paul Chappell, West Coast Baptist, Jack Trieber, Cameron Giovanelli (scandal), Golden State Baptist, Tony Hutson, Youth Congress, Mount Moriah Camp, John R Rice, Curtis Hutson, Lee Roberson, Lester Roloff, Faith for the Family, David Gibbs, Revival Fires, Dennis Corle, Jeff Fugate, Lonnie Mattingly, Keith Gomez, Mickey Carter, Eddie Lapina, Jim Shettler, Pensacola Christian, Bob Jones, Bob Gray Sr, etc. All these men are infected with the same disease of pragmatism, heresy, scripture perversion, and gospel corruption that Jack Hyles made famous. They are disobedient in many areas.

Jack Hyles and First Baptist Church of Hammond. Sexton liked Jack Hyles. He was good friends and associated with him. He preached at his church, including Hyles "Pastors School," whom he called "a real pastor in Dr. Hyles" (of course throwing in that old lovely man-worshipping title "Dr"), and he continues, "a man known around the world, and of course will be rememerbed forever as a true man of God, he was a pastor." Yikes. Wow. Those are dem words of a heretic, a man that is genuinely absent of any true spiritual discernment, or is he just so horribly compromised that his conscience is seared? In either case, both are exemplary of unregeneracy, which means Sexton was a false teacher. In the same video, Sexton promotes "my brother John Stancil," appealing to the Lord's presence for him and Stancil. Stancil, as you might well know, was involved in the sexual immorality and molestation coverup with the heretic Bill Gothard (he was a Board member of Gothard’s organization Institute in Basic Life Principles), and himself was an unregenerate adulterer. Stancil was a crook in unison with Curtis Hutson, while at the Sword of the Lord. He was also one time a music director at Curtis Hutsons son Tony’s church in Murfreesboro. We cover Stancil in more detail here. If Sexton was a "brother" to Stancil, then both were equally unconverted false teachers.

Sexton gave a doctorate (from Temple Baptist College) to fellow cult leader John Wilkerson, who has now taken over the cultish profane pulpit of Hyles and Schaap at First Baptist Church of Hammond. This is what Sexton had to say about Wilkersons appointment at the pastoral office of the heretical FBC of Hammond:

“We are excited about First Baptist Church of Hammond . . . I didn’t think [Wilkerson] would leave that GREAT CHURCH that he pastored. . . . I’m excited for you and praying for you. I want you to know that you have friends in Knoxville, Tennessee. . . . Keep working together for the glory of God. . . . May the greatest days for First Baptist Church of Hammond be the days that lie ahead.” (“Congratulations From Our Friends,” shown at First Baptist Church, Hammond, Sunday morning, Feb 17, 2013)

David Gibbs. Clarence Sexton preached with David Gibbs, Johnny Pope, and Paul Chappell at a Preacher's Delight Conference. He closely associated with these men and has had Gibbs preach in his church multiple times. Gibbs is a lawyer and was a lawyer for Hyles who helped him deal with scandals like the A.V. Ballenger molestations, Dave Hyles immoral sexual predator cover-ups, and more. Gibbs has every legal right to defend people as a lawyer. The problem is, he then went into churches and claimed people like Ballenger, who was a convicted child molester, were innocent. Gibbs lies everywhere he goes. And he lies for child molesters like Ballenger, in church. This is part of the Hyles group that Sexton associated with. And Chappell and Pope are part of it too.

Pope attended Hyles-Anderson and may have even taught there. And Chappell worked for Trieber who is very corrupt. It appears Chappell moved in a better direction, but he really didn’t. He just made the package more appealing. We expose Paul Chappell here.

You've probably heard him. Look up the A.V. Ballenger scandal and watch how Gibbs and Hyles responded at the news conference they made after the Preying From the Pulpit news series aired if you want an idea of how crooked they really are.

Jack Schaap. Sexton embraced the apostate Jack Schaap. On multiple occasions, from 2010 to 2012, Sexton preached with Schaap in Hammond, IN, and Schaap appeared for Sexton in Tennessee. Until the statutory rape was made public there was much promotion of Schaap by Sexton in print and video on the websites used by the Baptist Friends group that was founded, and is led, by Sexton. They all disappeared without a trace or explanation.

In 2010 Jack Schaap preached a “sermon” he had titled “Polishing the Shaft,” where he simulated masturbating before the entire congregation. It is one of the most, if not the worse, disgusting “sermon” that one could watch. Sexton was aware of it.

Who was Schaap? He became the son-in-law of Jack Hyles through marriage to Hyles daughter Cindy. Following the passing of Hyles, Schaap became the Senior Pastor for First Baptist Church of Hammond, IN, in Jan 2001. In the same month, Schaap also took up the role of Chancellor of Hyles-Anderson College in Crown Point, Indiana, his alma mater. In 2012 he was arrested and plead guilty to a federal charge of taking a minor across state lines for sex. He was sentenced to 12 years in prison followed by 5 years’ probation. It was good for First Baptist and HAC to point out that Schaap will not have employment there. Now it’s time for them to remove honors given to Hyles, as he (and his son) are both implicated in similar kinds of offenses to those of Schaap–Jack Hyles against his secretary and her husband, and David Hyles against a host of victims.

Here is Sexton’s response, on his Facebook page, to the exposure of Jack Schapp’s grooming of a child and subsequent child abuse, a letter entitled "The Fall of a Friend" (source -- since removed):

"There are times for God’s people to be silent and times when they need to speak. I have gone through another spine surgery and while at home recuperating, I have had a lot of time to ponder the goodness of the Lord and to praise Him for his care and keeping of my life. Let us remember that He never changes. The clearer our vision of God, the clearer everything else will be.

Just before I went into surgery I received the heart-breaking news concerning Brother Jack Schaap. Immediately, I called him and told him I had heard of his sin, and that I loved him and I was praying for him. I told him that if he desired to talk with me about this, I was willing to listen.

At the same time, I also spoke with Cindy. She was so heartbroken. Of course I told her Evelyn and I loved her, and that God will come to her aid and He will see her through this.

In forty-five years of ministry, I have not witnessed anyone who gave up so much for a moment of pleasure. This must be a warning to all of us.

Jack and Cindy Schaap have two wonderful children. Their son and daughter are admirable young adults in every sense of the word. They are married to outstanding Christians, and each of them has a beautiful family. I want them to have the brightest future possible. God is with them.

Many will be quick to condemn not only the Pastor, but also the grieving church which he pastored. Please allow me to say just a word about the First Baptist Church of Hammond, Indiana. It is an Independent Baptist Church and a truly great one. It is made up of great people who have a great Saviour. The Lord Jesus is with them. This great church has responded biblically and with compassion.

Upon finding the facts, the deacons of the church acted immediately to dismiss the pastor. Unanimously, they agreed that he has disqualified himself. They prayed for divine direction and the Lord is with them. The church did what was right even though their hearts were broken beyond what we who look on are capable of understanding. This is the Bible way. They are continuing to do the right thing, including cooperating with all local authorities. First Baptist Church of Hammond has displayed in their behavior a true biblical pattern. Christ remains their only head and the Bible, God’s Word, their sole authority for their faith and practice.

In conclusion let me say that I am grieved beyond words for people I genuinely love, but at the same time I am grateful to be an Independent Baptist. Dear friends, let us speak every word we speak as if it were spoken in the presence of Jesus Christ. It is.

Galatians 6:6-10"

The above letter written about a man who groomed a young girl and sexually took advantage of her, and is a good example of the subject of this section. This letter almost made us barf. It is a disgusting illustration of pragmatism and outright lies. The fakeness and faux humility is absolutely disgusting. Sugar coating the terrible crime commited and giving the appearance that "Christian" Schaap made just a little slip up. Of course the victim is never given any true compassionate consideration, or any mention at all.

Sexton refused to receive or give any warnings about other IFB’s, no matter how egregious their errors, which is always a mark of a false teacher/believer (a blatant rejection of the truth of God’s Word and work of the ministry: e.g. Ac. 17:11: Rom. 16:17-18; 1 Th. 5:21; 2 Tim. 3:16-17; Pr. 10:17; 12:1, 15; 13:1; 15:10, 31-32; 17:10; etc.).

Sexton was well aware of the horrible heresies that Schaap taught, but that didn't matter to Sexton. The only thing that mattered was how anything might affect the "pastor" and his "reputation." Here is an example from a book authored by the wicked Schaap:

"Psalm 119:30 says, ‘I have chosen the way of truth: thy judgments have I laid before me.’ That word laid is a sexual term which literally means the same thing as a man laying with a woman. God was saying that God’s laws should be as intimate as a marriage partner in a sexual liason. In the next verse, David gets more graphic. ‘I have stuck unto thy testimonies: O LORD, put me not to shame.’ That word stuck means ‘the act of a man entering his wife’; it is sexual intercourse. God says that the Word of God should be the Christian’s lover, and nothing should be closer to him than the Bible. The Words of God are supposed to be the most intimate lover of his life.” – Dr. Jack Schaap, “Marriage: The Divine Intimacy“, p. 50.

This is blasphemy at the highest level. Absolutely evil. And Sexton knew about it but never reproved Schaap and rather continued not only his fellowship and friendship, he also promoted him. It was only when a gross and criminal immoral sin came to light, then Sexton softly and quietly scurbbed his hands (and website) of any association with Schaap. Only when the cost of knowing the man could become a burden, did Sexton act, only to save face, his "reputation," his pews, his coffers, and so forth, you get the picture. Once again this is a clear mark of a false teacher/believer (blatantly rejecting the truth of God’s Word and work of the ministry: e.g. Ac. 17:11: Rom. 16:17-18; 1 Th. 5:21; 2 Tim. 3:16-17; Pr. 10:17; 12:1, 15; 13:1; 15:10, 31-32; 17:10; etc). It took him being ungodly immoral with a teenager for men like Sexton to finally distance themselves from him. Until the sexual immorality came to light, they were happy to be numbered with him, which is absolutely norm in the world of contemporary "Christianity," especially neo-evangelicalism, who do not separate from anyone until they commit some massive gross sin from which they cannot hide. This is always how it is with false teachers, and it's a sure sign of one. It is also one of the glaring errors of too many independent Baptist "big men." In so many cases, they won't draw lines where the Word of God draws them, which is way far before the sexual immorality stuff, but starts with their doctrine, their handling of Scripture, their practices.

After Schaap was sentenced to prison, most of the big dogs (Sexton, Jack Trieber, Tony Hutson, Doug Fisher, Johnny Pope, Larry Brown, John Vaughn, Ron Hamilton, David Gibbs, etc) acted as if their horrible lack of discernment (at best) or blatant ungodly disobedience (at worst) never actually happened. They scrubbed their websites and social media of any Schaap mentions, and then carried on as if nothing had changed — the same conferences, same line-up, same philosophy, only NO PUBLIC REPENTANCE. That should tell you just about everything concerning these heretical men, who are no different in fact than Schaap according to Scripture (i.e., Am 3:3).

Wth the commencement of his Independent Baptist Friends International (IBFI) movement (which he repeatedly promised at the time was not a new organization, where he was listed as the "executive director"), Sexton boosted the influence of Schaap in a tremendous way, all while refusing the pleas and warnings from several of his friends to not promote Schaap who had already written his blasphemous book on communion and preached his series promoting a prosperity Gospel. When Schaap’s immorality was made public Sexton wrote about the “fall” of his “friend,” while never acknowledging the error of getting in fellowship with, and promoting Jack Schaap. This is how heretics operate, ungodly and unrepentant men that wouldn't stick out their neck for the truth if their life depended upon it (a real marker of whether a so-called "man of God" is actually a true man of God), men that bring great reproach to the name of Christ.

In these videos you will note the unrepentant embracement and friendship between Sexton and these two wolves in sheep’s clothing, even preaching in their church (First Baptist of Hammond). Sexton continued to embrace and praise these ungodly heretics like Hyles after everything had come to light (calling him “a man of God who fell”) and Schaap in 2011 and 12, after his blasphemous teaching on communion was brought to the public spotlight (see here Clarence Sexton Praises Jack Schaap and Clarence Sexton Lies Again For Jack Hyles and Clarence Sexton Continues Praising Jack Hyles, Schaap, and John Stancil) and up until Schaap’s statutory rape of a child was made public there was much promotion of Schaap by Sexton in print and video on the websites used by the Baptist Friends group that was founded and led by Sexton; but then they all disappeared without a trace or explanation. Yes sir, IFB fundamentalist pragmatism at its finest. Its really ungodly, thats what it is, and reveals the wolf character of men like Sexton.

Sexton claimed to have distanced himself from Hyles after his scandal got exposed in The Biblical Evangelist. Yet he continued preaching in meetings with Hyles' most obvious crooked accomplice, and many others who have copied his ways, thus it was all fake "separation."

While hosting that inaugural meeting of the IBFI, Sexton, and other featured speakers made it very clear that any criticism of the meeting or movement was not welcome. Instead of appreciating that "iron sharpeneth iron," which is something a true friend does (Pr 17:17), those who questioned the promotion of some of the preachers at the conference were referred to as "presumptuous" and "immature." One preacher stated that we should "never criticize any man that's trying to get people saved. It doesn't matter who they are." That philosophy is foreign to Scripture. Peter, a preacher and follower of the Lord, was sharply rebuked by the Lord Jesus for his un-Scriptural statements (Matt 16:22-23). Later, the same Apostle was "withstood" by Paul for his wrong practice regarding the Gentiles (Gal 2:11), and Paul confronted him before the entire church at Antioch. Paul even went so far as to write his criticism down for believers all over the world to see! But not Sexton and the IBFI. They are built on the idea that as long as a man or ministry has the label of Independent Baptist then he or it is not to be judged in any way, just accepted. The concept is so foreign to the warnings of the Lord Jesus, Paul, Peter, John, and Jude that it just boggles the mind, doesn't it?

Sexton was good friends and close assoicate of Jack Hyles, but even that wasn’t enough for Hyles. In this clip, Sexton tells how he was rebuked by Jack Hyles for not supporting him enough. In a sense it is true, Sexton could have done more; he could have led him to repentance and true conversion! But never would a man who believes everyone that claims the name of Christ amongs the IFB is a true believer, critically challenge another IFB preachers so-called “salvation.” And what would he bave preached to Hyles? The same anemic, diluted, corrupted gospel that he himself embraced?

Sexton had Ian Paisley and other Presbyterians preach at his church and school. When he introduced Paisley he made light of the fact that he is a Presbyterian and they were Baptists. He has been presented as 'a Baptist that goes by the label Presbyterian,' but we know that is not the truth. Paisley was an avowed Presbyterian. There was no warning of the fact that the Free Presbyterian church views baptism as a "controversy issue" that is a matter of "personal liberty." There was no refutation of their Calvinism. As a matter of fact, the Reformers' portraits line the halls of Temple Baptist Church, speaking volumes to the lack of true spiritual discernment in Clarence Sexton, who didn't see Calvinism as a big threat and C.H. Spurgeon as his hero. The tremendous speaking ability of the late Paisely would undoubtedly cause students to explore Calvinism and read their theological books, especially considering many already are diehard and avid fans of Spurgeon, whom they would put next in line after the trinity and lust to be like him. Since many in these churches are as unregenerate as the average reformed calvinist, they would gladly adapt the status symbol of "elect" to their repertoire. Sadly majority of people attending institutions such as Temple Baptist have never heard a clear cut presentation on the errors of Calvinism from their pastor or church teacher or other leader, including Sexton. Nor have they heard the biblical definitions of biblical words that Calvinists pervert and the massive amounts of scripture they horribly wrest and pervert to support their heresies and damnable heresies (e.g., A Rebuttal of an Article on Calvinism's Doctrine of Election and Free Will - Part 1 and Trampling Calvinism’s TULIP). Men like Sexton aren't interested in doing something so negative and controversial as to warn about the countless dangers lurking at the doors of the church, since most of these errors have already come home to roost. Case in point. Those who protested the preaching of Paisley and other Presbyterians at Temple Baptist or Crown College, including outside pastors associated with the church, were ignored by Sexton or told things like, "don’t be divisive." Thats what he thinks of warnings, and admonishment. He is the opposite of the godly wise man in Jam 3:13-18, and is warned of in 1 Tim 6:3-5. Run from these charlatans and hirelings people!

Ed Reese. The type and calibre of Christianity that Sexton embraces is seen in a lot of ways, including in having a heretic teach and preach at Crown College for years, in that of Ed Reese (who was one time a teacher at Hyles Anderson College as well). Reese is the author of the Reese Chronological Bible and the Reese Chronological Encyclopedia of Christian Biography, both of which are blatantly heretical. Concerning the later, Sexton recommends this book, stating,

“These sketches will inspire Christian workers, students and laymen alike and immensely help our Christian heritage to be passed down to the next generation.”

Let’s consider who Reese considers to be “key players . . . who, historically, have made a difference in the world because of their Christian leadership and investment in the cause of Christ during their day and time.” Roman Catholics (quotes as found in the book) “Veronica - Woman whose veil retained impression of Christ” (p. 1); “St. Stephen I of Hungary” (p. 103); “Francis of Assisi – Founder of the Franciscan order” (p. 126); Catholic nuns like Sweden’s Sister Bridget, Italy’s Catherine of Siena, and Germany’s Sister Gertrude “The Great”, all of whom were fourteenth-century mystics given to demonic visions and prophecies (pp. 132, 140-41). Others include the anti-Semite “Edward I” (also known as “Longshanks”) whose many “contributions to the cause of Christ, including in 1290 banishing 16,000 Jews charged with organized extortionate usury.” Of course, he is much better known for having drawn and quartered the beloved Scottish patriot, Sir William Wallace in 1305. Sexton claims to be KJV-only while Reese isn’t. Sexton isn’t really different though, he is an ecumenist at heart, just much more deceptive and charismatic and flattering.

Kurt Skelly. Skelly has been invited to Crown College and and preached with Clarence Sexton, even though he preaches a false gospel.

Fake separatist. Like most typical IFB’s today, he does “not draw the line clearly and consistently enough from Independent Baptists who are not true separatists, from those who are associating with the SBC, who are using CCM, and who are moving rapidly in the contemporary, wishy-washy direction.” (An Open Letter to Clarence Sexton about the Friendship Conference, March 3, 2010, David Cloud). For instance, the Getty’s music is regularly entertained at Temple Baptist Church under Sexton's approval.

Sexton was a two-faced, duplicitous hypocrite, claiming to not wanting anything to do with SBC, actually leaving the denomination many years ago when it wasn’t nearly as apostate as it is today, but then inviting men in recent years to participate in his Friends Conference that have close associations with the convention (e.g. Ralph Sexton, Jr., Steve Roberson, the Ball Brothers, the Daybreak Quartet, Andrew Phipps).

Sexton claimed to hold to sound doctrine, and God's glory but if you look at Clarence Sexton's personal webpage and at the Crown College website, you don't see repudiation of all these shenanigans, but exaltation of them. That makes him one of them, and truly he was. There is massive amounts of confusion out there, because you've got this same man-centred, man-worshipping, man-exalting, lording, fake separation, non-reprovable, pragmatism of the highest order doctrine spread all over the place by men like Sexton.

Sexton has accepted invitations and shared stages with many compromisers and questionable men and heretics, including Mike Sproul, Kevin Bauder, and a mass of reformed calvinists. Sermon Audio’s annual Foundations Conference at BJU on Dec 8-9, 2022 included speakers Joel Beeke, Steven Lawson, and Paul Washer (all three of these men are in the G3, Master’s Seminary [John MacArthur], Ligonier Ministries [R.C. Sproul] orbit). They are thoroughly Calvinistic and speak in venues that BJU has traditionally separated itself from. Yet there in the midst of them we find Crown College’s President Clarence Sexton on the roster. Though he would eventually turn down the invitation, it was accepted at the first. At Sexton's Baptist Friends conference, he had Jack Schaap, Jack Trieber, and then president of the FBFI, John Vaughn, men that preach a false gospel. In 2013 Sexton was on the list of speakers preaching at Bob Jones University’s Bible conference, and speaking twice and closing out the conference, a school that is rampant with Calvinism and compromise. And this is with separation being a common emphasis among independent Baptists.  Separation, separation, separation, and then no separation over a false gospel? Is the Bible the basis for this separation teaching, or is it independent Baptist politics? He rejects separation but saved people do not, since it is tied into salvation itself (2 Cor 6:15-17). True born again believers do not deny, reject or change the doctrine of separation.

"Be ye not unequally yoked together with unbelievers: for what fellowship hath righteousness with unrighteousness?" (2 Cor 6:14)

Am 3:3,

"Can two walk together, except they be agreed?"

1 Cor 15:33,

"Be not deceived: evil communications corrupt good manners."

Pr 13:20,

"He that walketh with wise men shall be wise: but a companion of fools shall be destroyed."

It is always concerning when the world speaks well of you, as they did concerning Sexton, noted in this clip.

"Woe unto you, when all men shall speak well of you! for so did their fathers to the false prophets." (Lk 6:26)

Sexton was a Liar and Compromiser, a Defender of False Teachers, and the Bible is Clear that no Liar or Defender of the Ungodly will Ever Enter the Kingdom of God.

Sexton compromised by softening the separatist message to appeal to a broader audience, downplayed the need for full separation from apostasy and worked with those of questionable doctrine and outright false doctrine and heresy for the sake of "unity" and "effectiveness."

In 1970, when Sexton was only 22 years old, he met Billy Graham and stated that he viewed him very positively. This is about twenty years after Grahams horrible compromise and apostasy was already come to light.

Sexton has lied repeatedly and publicly by covering up for such wicked ministers such as Jack Hyles and Jack Schaap, and were they alive or still in the ministry, that behaviour would undoubtedly continue. Not only has he lied repeatedly publicly, and on the Internet, he takes money from kids in exchange for these kinds of lies. His false statements on Hyles and Schaap are public and shameless. No one made him do it. He did it himself. His lies were quite public, even to the point of being broadcast over the Internet, and should be refuted publicly also. We do not hate Clarence Sexton, or even Jack Hyles. There has been a lot of wrong done, however, and you should care about that too, immensely. Sexton hurts the credibility of Christians by lying for scoundrels.

That Hyles was a great man of God was to his followers more true than the gospel. But he was a wolf in sheep's clothing in reality. Preachers like Sexton didn't want to say anything bad or good about him, until the steam cooled off. For many years, preachers like Sexton wouldn't even mention Hyles until after his death. One man over heard Sexton privately claim that since Hyles's own church hadn't disciplined him, it was none of his business. But that was a major cop out. First, because as a “leader’ among fundamentalists, Sexton had a responsibility to use his discernment. Second, because he sat on boards with Hyles, and so it was every bit his business as to whether Hyles was guilty of all the rumours. And third, because Hyles had cult-like control of his church, he would never have been disciplined. That his church didn't get rid of him was in no way evidence of his innocence.

Almost every fundamentalist leader chose to look the other away, and not challenge Hyles, because they thought it would hurt their brand of Christianity too much if the truth came out. They were complicit in covering up for Hyles. Clarence Sexton along with Jack Trieber was the worst of them. He refused to say anything against it. For years he refused to mention Jack Hyles. Then, when he finally did start speaking of Hyles, it was to cover up for Jack Schaap—who is the result of Jack Hyles's ministry, like David Hyles—not just an accident, a preacher who was an ungodly wolf in sheep’s clothing and like the dog and pig eventually revealed his true character. He was the result of all of Hyles's lies, because they all covered up for him. When Sexton tells this story (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ppomCQYkLvY), he has to know he's lying. He portrays Jack Hyles as this poor little innocent lamb who had been through such terribly hard times. He blames all of Hyles's scandals on people being jealous and attacking him as a target. But Jack Hyles wasn't innocent. He was a terrible, self-centred, ungodly liar and blatant wolf in sheep’s clothing. People didn't want to admit he had gone so bad. But that's not the main reason why they lived and still live in denial. The main reason is because people like Clarence Sexton lied and continue to lie for him. You need to ask yourself, can a man be “a great man of God” and lie like that? My opinion is, no he can't. You can't be a great man of God and be a big time liar at the same time. Those things do not go together.  With Sexton the matter is much more serious than most. It's not that he didn't know the truth or didn't want to believe the truth. It's that he willingly, actively lied for Hyles, whom he didn't have to say a thing about.

Yet Sexton continued lying for Jack Hyles. Despite the evidence against David Hyles and Jack Hyles, from witnesses like Victor Nischik and his daughter Linda Hyles Murphrey, Paula Hyles Polonco, attorney Voyle Glover, Jerry Kaifetz, The Indianapolis Baptist Temple, and The Biblical Evangelist, as well as articles like "Let Us Prey" from Chicago Magazine; Clarence Sexton continued to lie on behalf of Jack Hyles. This linked sermon took place on Dec 10, 2012 to the students of Crown College at semester end —very clever to talk about Hyles this way before the Christmas break so his followers would think Schaap's arrest was an isolated event and not part of a much longer and just as serious string of scandals reaching back decades.

Sexton is a two-faced liar, who lies whenever it suits him, to fit his best interests. We feel sorry for anyone who considers him a man of God.

He justifieth the wicked, and this is what Scripture has to say about those who do this:

"He that justifieth the wicked, and he that condemneth the just, even they both are abomination to the LORD." (Pr 17:15)

All liars and abominables will have their part in the lake of fire (Rev. 21:8, 27).

Rev 21:8, 27,

"But the fearful, and unbelieving, and the abominable, and murderers, and whoremongers, and sorcerers, and idolaters, and all liars, shall have their part in the lake which burneth with fire and brimstone: which is the second death. . . . And there shall in no wise enter into it any thing that defileth, neither whatsoever worketh abomination, or maketh a lie: but they which are written in the Lamb's book of life."

Gods Word commands, “And have no fellowship with the unfruitful works of darkness, but rather reprove them” (Eph 5:11), but Sexton did the very opposite, in the name of furthering the independent Baptist movement. He both fellowshipped with unfruitful works of darkness and refused to reprove them. That is evil.

Gods Word commands, “Whosoever transgresseth, and abideth not in the doctrine of Christ, hath not God. He that abideth in the doctrine of Christ, he hath both the Father and the Son. If there come any unto you, and bring not this doctrine, receive him not into your house, neither bid him God speed:” (2 Jn 1:9-10). But Sexton received those who came not with the doctrine of Christ into his house and wished them Godspeed, which is expressing well wish’s for someone’s journey. What was the journey of men such as Hyles and Hutson and others? Leading the masses down the broad path and into the eternal fires of hell. Sexton was on board with that sojourn.

Other Errors and Issues.

Sexton taught and promoted doctrines that are not clearly supported by Scripture, corrupted massive amounts of Scripture, embraced man-made ideas and systems including the ungodly and unBiblical exaltation of the pastoral office. Noted in his near continual scripture twisting and disregard for the truth.

Seriously the quintessential smooth-talking snake-oil salesman of the man-centred man-worshipping arm of the IFB. In an interview about the continuation of the Keswick theological conference of Niagara Bible Conference, Pauley says one of his favourite books that he recommends, which “came at a very pivotal time in [his] life,” was “The Raymond Edmond’s book, 'They Found the Secret,' which is the life sketch of twenty great Christians in history who all discovered the secrets of the Spirit filled life, Christ in you the hope of glory, it really changed my life,” which is literally a textbook of heretical second blessing/Keswick theology, teaching absolute heresy concerning the doctrine of sanctification, and by extension, salvation. What Pauley says about the text, “discovered the secrets of the Spirit filled life, Christ in you the hope of glory,” is pure Keswick theological lingual, and this apparently “changed [his] life” which is very troubling. It tells us he very likely is an unsaved man, and for alot more reasons than just this book. The next book he recommended was another book of Keswick-driven heretic, G. Campbell Morgan. People that strive after this unbiblical second blessing theology are actually missing the first blessing, hence the futile search for something never attainable.

Sexton routinely softened and corrupted the critical doctrine of separation.

One example, he had that bapticostal charlatan and utter heretic C.T Townsend preach for his teens, an inconvenient slipup. Let’s consider how bad Townsend really is, to truly understand the ramifications for having this showmanship heretic preach at his church (his style is really a result of a lack of scripture). In a sermon titled How To Put On A Revival, Townsend chose to preach mainly about his wife's hairspray routine, which is typical preaching of false teachers, who make everything about them. The entire sermon was built around a story of himself, as it always is.  As typical for his preaching, it was silly, immature, and outrageous, centred on telling stories designed to entertain, and be the center of the entertainment. We could call him "Hollywood." Its not how preachers should behave. His perversion and utter corruption of “revival” can come allegedly through such means of being at odds with his wife and then melting like a baby and kowtowing like a spineless eunuch. CT isn't ignorant like Apollos was in Acts. He's been doing this for years. He also calls himself a Baptist, and the Bible is now complete if he has any questions. But he's not that interested in it, his preaching shows. He promotes emotional experiences rather than truth, yet he had the audacity (uncorrectable) to claim that the Holy Spirit led him to preach this. Since Townsend is not ignorant of the fact that Bible preaching should be biblically based, and has undoubtedly been corrected on these matters, yet continues down the path of entertaining rather than exegeing and expositing the Bible — that makes him uncorrectable and a dangerous false teacher. What makes things even worse, he has been discipled by devout Hyles-followers such as Larry Brown, who we expose here.

Stephen Troell -- Missionary sent by Temple Baptist Church

Sexton helped produce the heretical and unBiblical beliefs and views of missionary Stephen Troell, who was sadly assassinated in Iraq in 2022. The terrible ecumenicalism witnessed in his pastor Clarence Sexton was played out in Troell’s own life. He believed God wanted him to be a missionary to the Moslem people of Iraq, but the horrible compromise and unBiblical practices that Troell demonstrated on a regular basis were not of God, and this we would didn’t find surpirsing after discovering his association with the heretical and evil Hyles/Schaap First Baptist Church of Hammond, IN. Troell would even favourably quote the heretic and deceptive thief K.P Yohannan, who has stolen millions of donor dollars (from churches and professing Christians in North America), whom we expose here: Are You Feeding Wolves like K.P. Yohannan and Gospel for Asia (GFA)? Troell actually rejected God’s Word, such as Rom 16:17-19; 1 Tm 6:3-5; 2 Tim 3:5-9; 2 Jn 1:6-9; Matt 7:15-20; 2 Cor. 6:14–18; Eph. 5:11; 1 Cor. 15:33; Pr. 9:6. etc, etc.

Troell would partake of the evil Islamic holiday of Ramadan, and proclaimed to the Moslem peoples that Allah and Jehovah as one same God, which is beyond blasphemous since God tells us in Holy Script that Allah is 100% Satan. He wrote lots on Islam but it was mainly lies and serious compromise. For instance, one article was “The Ramadan 30-Day Prayer Guide” where he spoke highly of Ramadan, of Islam and of their false prophet Muhammad. It was a dusgisting piece of gaslighting Christians, disarming them, and purveying Islam and Ramadan in an entirely different light than the truth of the Quran. Ramadan is the unholy and diabolical fallicious and ridiculous month of daytime “fasting” and night-time gluttony (based around the moon, in worship of their moon god), but moreso, it is the month of jihad, rampant with blood-lust toward “infidels.” After Troell got gunned down before his family (not for his faith mind you but retaliation against America for their involvement with the assassination of their top general by Israel), one of Troells neighbours was questioned about Troell, who stated that Troell would take part in important Shiite Moslem events, even the Arbaeen pilgrimage to Karbala to commemorate the death of Imam Hussein (source). In the immediate years prior to his death, this author had extensive communication with Troell (whom we knew personally) about his work in the Middle East. In many of his letters there was severe compromise illustrated and man-centredness, directly tied to the heavy influence of his pastor, Clarence Sexton, on his life. I wrote of my deep concerns about his neglect and denial of Scripture in exchange for unscriptural “friendships,” “fellowships” and supposed missions. I questioned him about the half-truths, lies, deceptions and errors he was writing about concerning Islam and Islam’s false god. Like his articles, he consistently argued straw man, red herrings and other logical fallacies to support a very heretical belief that the god of Islam is the same as the God of the Bible. In most of his writings he makes zero mentions of the unholy and Satanically-inspired Quran and its great constrast to the Bible. There couldn’t be a greater difference in the world than the true living God of Heaven and the false and evil god that Moslems worship, yet none of that is ever mentioned or warned about. This coupled with the corrupt gospel of false-repentance and easy believism and you have Moslems who “repent” and still remain Moslem. It mirrors what neo-evanglical heretics are doing in the Middle East, such as the Mennonite Central Committee.

Troell claimed to be a Christian but he couldn’t even preach the truth to the demented and brainwashed Moslems who hate Jesus, love Satan, love violence and lying and deception. They would have pulled the wool over undiscerning Troell’s eyes, and by the sounds of it, he didn’t mind. His undiscernment and awful compromise went so far as to invite a young troubled moslem man to sleep in his apartment, in the very same apartment where his three young daughters slept! This isn’t trusting in the Lord but sheer stupidity and utter foolishness, knowing all to well of the horrible evil and depravity of Moslem devils, who have created epidemics of rape and sexual molestations in western countries (e.g., Britain, Sweden, France, throughout Europe) on the back of the Quran anbd Hadiths. Their hatred towards woman is well documented, especially their satanic hatred of “infidel” girls, who are seen as nothing but dogs to them. And no, that is not Moslem stereotype, but cold hard facts. Yet, he allowed an unconverted Moslem young man to sleep under the same roof as his family, which are all females!!! And rejected 2 Cor 6:14–18; Eph 5:11; 1 Cor 15:33; Pr 9:6 in so-doing, and cared more for an ungodly infidel than his own family! Most Moslems wouldn’t hesitate to rape and molest his daughters or wife for a moment! It’s an accepted practice against an infidel and to allow such into ones home is a tragedy of indescribable proportion. We are personally acquainted with a case where all the daughters of a missionary to Cameroon were severely molested by a young teenage boy they adopted, and could you guess what “religion” and ideology he represented?? I exhorted Troell to wake up, and what he was doing was foolish and not trusting in the Lord (as he was prone to think) for the Lord has already spoken of such things in His Word and He gives wisdom, not folly. He was very deceived (1 Cor. 15:33).

Troell couldn’t even tell them that the “Jesus” they have embraced was a “another Jesus” and that the true Jesus, the Son of God and God the Son, that this very “Jesus is a completely different Jesus” than that of the Quran indeed! Stephen Troell was either very ignorant or very deceptive to what the truth is and how evil the Quran is and how contrary it is to the Bible. If he knew anything about God’s Word and about Islam, he would’ve immediately known that the Allah of Islam is the devil as described and illustrated in the Bible. They are a perfect match. Amongst many examples here is one: the Quran commands the “good” Muslim to murder and lie for Allah; God says that murder and lying is birthed from the father of such, whom is the devil (Jn. 8:44). The linked article details many, many more similarities between Allah and Satan, without even considering their evil doctrines of devils as they corrupt who the true and living Triune God is and His Word and their complete rejection of Jesus Christ.

Men like Stephen Troell are doing the very worst thing possible to a Moslem, in their supposed witness to them. Instead of exhorting them to fully repent of their idolatry (Allah, Muhammad, Quran) and truck loads of sins, to forsake their evil and Satanic false religion and to flee from it and all their other evil, he rather kept them in the dark to this. Men like him do far more damage possible to the Moslem people, then not saying anything at all. He envisioned hundreds of Moslem-background churches, but these “churches” would be heretical, full of false believers and their false Jesus. His false beliefs about Islam serving the same God as the Christian is worse than heretical. That, along with the no-repentance from their idolatry, we have damnable heresies and making them two-fold children of hell.

Like Sexton, Troell rode on emotion and feelings and friendships but not on the truth of God’s Word. But his fallicious and egregious views of Islam and sugar-coating their evil, and purveying the horrible and satanic ideologies and doctrines of devils are only a piece of the puzzle. The heresies started long before, with the corrupt gospel that Sexton preached and he himself embraced, which led to a perverted view of the saved man, of Islam, and a serious corruption and wresting of God’s Word to purvey false himility and a distorted doctrine of regeneracy.

Conclusion

The Apostle Peter warned that there would be influential men among the Lord’s churches who would "deny the Lord that bought them" (2 Pet 2:1), not with a verbal statement such as “I deny the Lord,” but with their works and beliefs. The Apostle went on to reveal that they would deny him by bringing in damnable heresies, making merchandise of the Lord’s people, walking after the flesh in the lust of uncleanness, despising government, being presumptuous, being self-willed, railing against dignities, speaking evil of things they understand not, having eyes full of adultery, constantly sinning, beguiling unstable souls, practicing covetousness, forsaking the right way, following the way of Balaam, speaking great swelling words of vanity, alluring followers through wantonness, and promising liberty while being servants of corruption (2 Peter 2:1-19). Scripture is not teaching that every false teacher will display all of those attributes, attitudes, and actions. One may foment factionalism while maintaining an impeccable testimony of fidelity to his spouse. Another might never rail against dignities and yet be a master of speaking vain words. Still others might hold a Scriptural understanding of liberty while making merchandise of the Lord’s people. What they do have in common is their characteristic denial of the Lord in refusing to submit to Him where His Word contradicts their particular lusts, and that refusal actually had its roots and foundation long before they ever graced a pulpit. It started in their rejection of the true gospel that includes true repentance and surrender to the Lordship of Christ, which true gospel they replaced with a placebo that fit their own lusts, the false gospel of self-fulfillment and self-preservation. These men are like Balaam, the false prophet, who spoke tremendous Biblical truth (Num 24) while practicing disobedience against God and plotting to bring destruction upon the people of God, the Jewish people (remind you of anyone today, among so called "Christians"? .... hint hint, reformed calvinists).

No one should associate with the likes of Clarence Sexton, a man-centred and hero-worshipping pragmatic ear-tickling preacher of a corrupted watered-down gospel and purveyor of much doctrinal error; one that wrests Gods Word and proof texts as required for his own personal agenda, revealing his irreverence to God and His Word; a pragmatic church growth compromised guru; one who rejects the Biblical command to practice church discipline; an embracer of the “essentials and non-essentials” heresy; ecumenicalist; huge promoter of and associate with ungodly and wicked men (such as Jack Hyles, Jack Schaap, CT Townsend, and others, preaching at heretical conferences); affiliated with other heretics such as Tony Hutson and Jack Trieber and all the rest of the fragmented and unrepentant remains of the Hyles coalition, and had a blatant heretic (Ed Reese — also a Hyles wash-up) work for the school for years; he’s a two-faced habitual liar who willingly and actively covers up and lies for other men and their sins, instead of reproving and separating (e.g. Hyles and Schaap); refuses to receive reproof, criticism is not welcome and refuses to give any warnings about other IFB’s, no matter how egregious their errors and ungodly their sins; false worshipper of CCM music; purveyor of a corrupted gospel; etc. These are not some minor little problems.

Anyone can stand up in a pulpit and preach glad tidings of good things, edifying elements, appear as a man of God, have a nice smile and act kind, dress the part and even be very knowledgeable over Christian matters but what he does with God's Word, how he treats God's Word and entreats its authority, how he associates with error, or how he handles God's pure gospel, or fellowships with false teachings or teachers, will tell the actual story whether he is a true teacher of God, or a false teacher. How obedient is the man really, and does he fear God or man (by his actions)? I think from just the above we can discern who Clarence Sexton really was and the true legacy he leaves behind, based upon sensible objections. Sexton purveyed a corrupted gospel that makes most recipients two-fold children of hell, had no issue associating or preaching with and promoting ungodly wolves in sheep's clothing, propagated false doctrine, wrested Scripture, was a pathological liar, all of which condemn him as a false teacher and unregenerate sinner. These things make it clear that Sexton was a hypocrite and heretic, one warned of by Jesus (Matt 7:15) and by Paul who declared, “grievous wolves [shall] enter in among you, not sparing the flock.” (Ac 20:29). He was certainly disqualified as a pastor, seeing the Bible demands that pastors must be absolutely blameless (1 Tim 3:2; Ti 1:7), the very first qualification listed in both passages. A preacher who falls into sin is to be exposed, as Paul told Timothy in 1 Tim 5:20, and unfortunately this did not occur by to many prior to his death.

Paul warned of men like Sexton in 1 Tim 6:3-5,

"If any man teach otherwise, and consent not to wholesome words, even the words of our Lord Jesus Christ, and to the doctrine which is according to godliness; He is proud, knowing nothing, but doting about questions and strifes of words, whereof cometh envy, strife, railings, evil surmisings, Perverse disputings of men of corrupt minds, and destitute of the truth, supposing that gain is godliness: from such withdraw thyself."

1 Tim 5:20,

"Them that sin rebuke before all, that others also may fear."
