Firebombing Fireproof

Updated: Jan 14

Fireproof is the quintessential “evangelical” execrable movie. Though it may reflect “some” truth, overall it represents the confused, contradictory, and heretical “Christianity” of evangelicalism quite well, the kind far from the truth of Scripture that God spews out of His mouth (Rev 3:16-17). Everything that is to be despised about “evangelicalism” is condensed into a two-hour shot of pseudo-righteousness. No one that knows anything about the Bible or professes to be a Christian should be watching neo-evangelical garbage like Fireproof. And shame to those who promote it, clearly lacking Biblical discernment and love for God (which is demonstrated by obedience alone—Jn 14:15-25; 1 Jn 2:3-5).

The Movie Itself is Unscriptural, Heretical

Let’s consider a few points of heresy out of a truck load:

  • The main woman characterized in the movie is a hypocrite, control-freak, whorish, flirtatious, trampish, and unfaithful to the covenant God had made (Gen. 2:24; Matt. 9:3-4) something she never repents of and none of what represents a born again believer to any degree;

  • The relationships are worldly, the following-after-our-feelings kind, the sort produced by the unBiblical and heretical books such as “Five Love Languages” and “Love and Respect” but thoroughly loved by evangelicals;

  • The movie is subtly feminist;

  • The movie ignores Biblical obedience and caves the wife’s demands, which reveals ungodliness all around including her love of money and material;

  • Heresy on divorce, which is wickedness;

  • The movie portrays the “40-day” have-your-best-life-now and prove-your-worthiness neo-evangelical garbage;

  • Worship of people;

  • A false gospel;

  • And More.

The burden is with the man but the woman apparently doesn’t need to be converted. Its an utter disgrace that so-called Christians play on the mythological theme where the hero must accomplish some great feat to woo his would be wife and in this case, the hero has already wooed her; she just turned out to be flaky and a hypocrite. He finds himself having to woo her again, and again, and then at the end, still ambivalence. The message these ungodly movies send is divorce or threaten to divorce, and you will be happy with the power you gain. It’s an attractive package of “Christian” feminism, which corresponds with the ungodly gender indistinctive attire (cf. De 22:5). The message to men is to grovel and jump to her every whim to try to save your marriage. Instead of the woman submitting to the man, the man has to submit to the woman. That is evil and plainly unscriptural (cf. Eph 5:22; Col 3:18) and reeks wholly of feminism and destruction. Men need to stop allowing this destructive evil in their homes and churches.

All of it is bad, Satanic lies, and yet it is purveyed on a platform professing “Christianity.” That professing “Christians“ watch and swallow this garbage is unbelievable but it does fit with the almost blanket false professions and unregenerate estates of these professors who fill the pews of almost every church today. Concerning the gospel, it perfectly represents the false and perverted “gospel” of self-fulfilment and easy-believism that floods practically all evangelical, Protestant and other churches, hence the pews loaded with unsaved hypocrites. That happens to also be why they like this disgraceful garbage hated by God (cf. Ps 119:127-128; Rom 12:9).

Not only is the movie bad, reflective of the worldly and unBiblical “Christianity” prevalent in the “evangelical” world, but so are the producers of the movie. Naturally this would be the case (Pr 23:7).

The Producers Are Ecumenical Heretics

Sherwood Baptist Church (SBC), maker of the movie Fireproof (and Flywheel, Facing the Giants, Courageous), promotes unity with the Roman Catholic Church for the purpose of bringing America back to God. SBC is located in Albany, Georgia, in the midst of the so-called Bible belt, but Pastor Michael Catt doesn’t believe what the Bible says about separation from heresy (Rom 16:17; 2 Cor 6:14; 2 Tim 3:5) and the reason for that is described in scripture as well: they are UNSAVED HYPOCRITES, since separation starts precisely in salvation (2 Cor 6:14-18) and so if you don’t practice separation as a professing Christian, you very quickly reveal your true pig and dog nature (Matt 7:6; 2 Pet 2:22). This church was aggressively seeking Catholic participation in the promotion of its movie Courageous. They have said that “Catholics will be sent to the SBC’s Courageous Resources site for Catholics.” Wow, how terrible is that! They see Catholics as brothers and sisters in Christ. SBC invited the National Catholic Register to view the filming of the movie and Pastor Catt gave the reporter, Matthew Warner, a warm, positive ecumenical interview which was published on the Catholic publication’s web site June 20, 2010. Catt made the following statement in this interview:

“When we go across the country and do these screenings, we meet people from every denomination you can imagine, and we instantly have a fellowship and a brotherhood because we have one thing we know that we have in common: we’re family. We’re family members because we are brother and sisters in Christ, and it doesn’t matter what labels we put on.”

This confused, heretical and ungodly Southern Baptist pastor obviously doesn’t believe Jesus’ warning about the coming of many false teachers who will teach error in such a subtle manner that even the elect will be deceived if that were possible (Matt 7:15; 24:11, 24). Catt also doesn’t understand the difference between truth and error evidently, unable to discern between the spirit of truth and the spirit of error (1 Jn 4:1). Catt doesn’t believe Jesus’ statement that many who profess Christ as “Lord, Lord” are actually lost (Matt 7:21-23). Catt doesn’t believe what Paul through the Holy Spirit warned about false christs and false gospels and false spirits (2 Cor 11:1-3) and the great falling away from the truth in the end times (2 Timothy 3:5; 4:3-4). Catt might protest with his lips that he does believe these things, but those are just mere words if they have no practical truth to them. Its just further reflection of the dead faith that he has embraced (Jam 2:1-19). Our words condemn or justify us (Matt 12:37).

Billy Atwell, another Catholic blogger who was invited to view the filming of Courageous, said that for Baptists and Catholics to work together “we just need a common orthodox Christian framework, and to agree on the issue at hand” (“From Fireproof to Courageous,” Catholic Online, June 18, 2010). To imply that Baptists and Roman Catholics share a common orthodox framework, is horrible heresy and only reflective of someone that is a fool without Biblical conversion since he doesn’t understand the most basic of Biblical teachings. Comparing Bible-believing Baptists and Catholics is like comparing Heaven and Hell. They don’t share the same view of the gospel even one bit, for example, which is certainly Christian orthodoxy. The Bible teaches that salvation is by grace alone through faith in Christ alone without works or sacraments, whereas at the Council of Trent Rome actually cursed those who believe this gospel (See Biblical Christianity vs Roman Catholicism). When Atwell refers to the “issue at hand” he is referring to the theme of Courageous, which is fatherhood. Thus we are told that it is fine for Baptists and Catholics to unite for fatherhood. Though it is corrupted by them, fatherhood defined biblically requires that fathers lead their children to Christ, which requires a sound and true gospel, which is far removed from Catholicism. Further, Biblical fatherhood requires that fathers lead their families in obedience to the “whole counsel of God” and teach their children to “observe ALL things” that Christ has commanded us in Scripture (Matt 28:19-20), also far removed from Catholicism. Good fatherhood, therefore, requires raising one’s family in a sound and solid Biblicist church, and it does not allow Bible-believing fathers to yoke together in ministry and spiritual fellowship with those who teach false gospels and MANY other gross heresies (e.g., the papacy, mariolatry, sacramentalism, baptismal regeneration, the priesthood, monasticism, enforced celibacy, reverence of relics, purgatory, Rome as the head of all churches, etc).

Sherwood Baptist is blind to the fact that it represents a perverted, heretical, corrupt, worldly, “lukewarm” (Rev 3:16) “Christianity” that God spews out of His mouth and the very cause of Americas downfall. The reason for it is simple: unsaved heretics playing church and they are a large part of that problem.

The Kendrick Brothers are Ungodly Hypocrites

The Kendrick brothers have about as much Biblical discernment as a pig drinking at the trough. After all, they are also producers of the extremely unbiblical and heretical lie “Heaven Is For Real” movie and in recent times, one of them divorced his wife, which is adultery (Mk 10:2-12), but so typical of “evangelicals,” who are “lovers of their own selves,” and “unholy,” and “trucebreakers,” and “Traitors,” (2 Tim 3:1-3), all characteristics of false Christians in these “last days” of “perilous times.” Devon Franklin argued that his divorce was an act of love for his wife, a notion that reflects the unBiblical “love” of “evangelicals” and completely contradicts God’s hatred of divorce found in Scripture (Mal 2:13-16; Rom 7:1-3). These “ungodly men” who “turn the grace of God unto lasciviousness” (Ju 1:4) “Hav[e] a form of godliness, but deny the power thereof: from such turn away.” (2 Tim 3:5). They are “Ever learning, and never able to come to the knowledge of the truth.” (2 Tim 3:7). And then they become “teachers” and “preachers” and producers spreading abroad their hypocrisy, worldliness, spiritual adultery, heresy, and apostasy, always “resist[ing] the truth: men of corrupt minds, reprobate concerning the faith.” (2 Tim 3:8).

“Evangelicals” as I always say, are the greatest of hypocrites, because they outright reject “the goodness of God that leadeth thee to repentance,” (Rom 2:4) because they refuse to repent of their love of self, their love of certain sins, their love of the world, their love of people over God, their hatred for true Biblical Christianity—which is the old paths (Jer 6:16)—and much of the Bible. Hypocrites like Franklin are blinded to their hypocrisy: he plays a role in the unbiblical movie “Relationship Goals,” which is based on the utterly heretical and apostate Michael Todd‘s book with the same name and subtitled, “How to win at relationships” including “marriage” while not having the first clue as to how to maintain his own marriage. The hypocrisy is nauseating. You couldn’t make this stuff up. And they wonder why our society is the way it is.

God’s Word says, “he that believeth on him shall not be confounded.” (1 Pet 2:6). “Confounded” has the idea of being ashamed and disgraced. It’s a shame and disgrace to promote unBiblical and worldly error and false teachings. Yet "evangelicals" continue to be confounded but God warns:

“He, that being often reproved hardeneth his neck, shall suddenly be destroyed, and that without remedy.” (Pr 29:1).
“Thus saith the LORD, Stand ye in the ways, and see, and ask for the old paths, where is the good way, and walk therein, and ye shall find rest for your souls.” (Jer 6:16a).

Or will you be like the people Jeremiah preached to?

“But they said, We will not walk therein.” (Jer 6:16b).

Will you also refuse to “Hearken to the sound of the trumpet,” sounded by the “watchmen” (Jer 6:17)?

Mocking, scorning, or scoffing won’t help you in the day of your judgment. It also reflects your unsaved estate, plainly evident by many passages in scripture including 1 Jn 4:6,

“We are of God: he that knoweth God heareth us; he that is not of God heareth not us. Hereby know we the spirit of truth, and the spirit of error.”
